Locks for the Lost - Route 66 Memorial

Our Mission

"Locks for the Lost" stands as a symbol of love, remembrance, and unity - giving families and friends a place to honor those lost to cancer and other hardships. Each lock tells a story, linking the strength of the living with the memory of the loved.

The Journey

Along the legendary Route 66, Locks for the Lost stands as both a destination and a journey — a traveling memorial honoring lives touched by cancer and other hardships.

Built from weathered rebar shaped into a flowing ribbon, the memorial reflects the strength found in even the roughest materials. As it makes its way down America’s Mother Road, it invites people from every stop to add their own lock — a symbol of love, remembrance, and connection.

Each lock carries a story. Together they form a living monument that grows with every mile, linking communities and hearts across the country. For some, the journey is physical — visiting the site, sharing a name, leaving a mark. For others, it’s deeply personal — a road toward healing, hope, and remembering that we never travel alone.

Locks for the Lost reminds us that the road to healing is not straight or simple — but it is shared. Every lock, every story, every stretch of highway becomes part of the same enduring journey.
